The Crew Of Two
Marita
Born in Lismore VIC, the middle girl of three and moved to beautiful Hervey Bay early on in life - from farm life to a beach side town. After leaving secondary school she moved to Bris Vegas to study Medical Science - her passion in life since getting a microscope for her tenth birthday and what was to become her chosen career path and huge area of interest.
After graduating from Queensland University of Technology, she settled down to full time pathology work in Brisbane; until a fateful invitation to rural Tamworth to work in the laboratory while the lab manager was away. That's where she met Michael (there was a dance floor involved!) and never went home.
Three years into her three month posting at Tamworth, Marita married Michael and knew she had found a life long partner. But she could never have concieved of 'this' some twenty two years later - a massive life adventure and a certain blog.
No real sailing experience but she loves being on the water in any type of vessel, when she's not being seasick! She will share in the blogging activities, passage planning and sailing duties and, most importantly, will take full control of the galley and all associated hunting and gathering. Nothing excites Marita more than good food - creating, sourcing, preparing and consuming it.
She also loves a good challenge and enjoys travel, snow sports, water sports and generally making the best of the cards she holds.
Michael
Born and bred in Tamworth NSW, the second oldest of four children. He was lazy at school except when it came to sports day, where in his mind, second was the first last.
After leaving secondary school with what could only be described as below average grades took on an apprenticeship in electrical work. Before long he had decided that there was more to life than crawling around in stinking hot ceilings. He set about making up for his lazy school days and graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Engineering Management. A long and fulfilling career in the energy industry followed.
His sailing experience started in earnest when the decision was made to buy a sailing cat after being in and around power boats all his life. This also coincided with the decision to make a sailing boat home and main form of transport for what will hopefully become an epic expedition. A crash course in Yacht Master Offshore will have to do; the rest will come from sailing the Med - what you'd call on the job training!
He loves all sports but nowadays concentrates on snow sports, water sports and triathlon. He also loves to travel and meet new people.
He will take on skipper duties, share blogging activities, general maintenance and repair tasks and, when allowed, venture into the galley as sous chef.
